I watch a ton of old wrestling shows. From WCCW to AWA, Portland to Florida, Mexico to Canada, if it exists, I’ve likely got it. My wife thinks it’s silly to have so much of this stuff, and she’s probably right. At 34 years old, I could push play right now, roll endlessly and probably still twist off this mortal coil long before the videos stopped playing. What can I say, it’s a sickness. At least it’s not heroin, right? One of the things I enjoy most about watching old school wrestling shows is taking a look back to when the wrestlers worked the fans, not the other way around. Of course, nothing is black and white. There were tons of bad workers back in the day, and plenty of great workers around now, but I’d say the percentages are far different now as opposed to then. For example, whatever happened to eye contact with the crowd? I think part of the problem is things have gotten so fast in the ring, fans don’t have time to process what they’re seeing.
